The French company has declassified the first official images of model Peugeot 508 RXH which can partly be regarded as an analog-terrain wagon Subaru Outback or hatchback Honda Crosstour. "Partly" – because a novelty distinguishes not only an all wheel drive and the raised ground clearance, but also a hybrid power-plant. And the basic motor – diesel. The French while don't open these details. But they stress that the version 508 RXH destined role of the most luxurious in the range of modifications. Raised suspension means it rides higher than the SW estate, and the black body cladding means it’s wider too. And there are LED lights in a ‘lions claw’ motif in the front bumper. Peugeot promises a unique interior, with special colours and materials, and there’s loads of standard kit to reflect the expected £30k-plus price tag: sat-nav, electric front seats, keyless entry and go, a head-up display, a panoramic glass roof and 18in wheels are standard. The 2012 Peugeot 508 RXH diesel-electric hybrid has been officially revealed ahead of its world debut at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Featuring all-wheel drive via Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology, the 508 RXH comes packing the automaker's 2.0-liter HDi diesel engine with a 28-kilowatt (38-horsepower) electric motor. This system, identical to the one found in Peugeot's 3008 Hybrid4, makes the 508 RXH a so-called "through-the-road" hybrid vehicle. Combined, the diesel-electric hybrid drive unit delivers up to 147 kW (200 horsepower) and cranks out 332 pound-feet of torque. The 508 RXH can operate in electric-only mode, though Peugeot has not revealed the vehicle's "zero-emissions" range. The French automaker say the 508 RXH consumes less than 4.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (56 miles per gallon U.S.) in the combined cycle and emits 109 g/km of CO2. The 508 RXH will go on sale in spring of 2012. Peugeot says it will extend its HYbrid4 technology to additional vehicles in the near future. Learn more in the official press release after the jump. There’s not, but the sole powertrain available is the clever bit, utilising the same Hybrid4 diesel-electric set-up that’s already debuted in the 3008. A 163bhp 2.0-litre diesel drives the front wheels, and a 37bhp electric motor powers the back axle. And the latter’s modular configuration means Peugeot can bolt it into any car from the 308 upwards – and sister brand Citroen can do exactly the same. All in the system makes 200bhp and 332lb ft, and while the motor spends much of its time assisting the HDI engine, it’s also able to run the RXH in 100% EV mode. That means rear-wheel drive, but also some impressive official figures: 67.2mpg and 109g/km CO2. Blame the big wheels and bigger body for the RXH’s inability to match the 74.4mpg and 99g/km CO2 recorded by the identically powered 3008 Hybrid 4. The Peugeot 508 RXH will make its official world debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September 2011, and UK sales will follow in spring 2012.

BMW doesn't seem to be too engaged in trying to hide what the company's new i8 supercar will look like when it arrives – in fact, it's been so kind as to leave the label on one of its prototypes. Our keen-eyed spy photographers managed to snap a few quick photos of the vehicle dashing through the snow in northern Sweden during a little cold-weather testing. The machine you see above will be the reigning monarch of the Bavarian automaker's new sub-brand, i, once it debuts. While that's bad news bears for diesel fans, the fact that BMW is gearing the platform toward gasoline means that this vehicle will more than likely show up on American shores. We're about to have our first encounter with one of the most significant new cars of the new decade. Engulfed in blue smoke and accompanied by red laser effects, BMW's new hybrid supercar enters the pitch-black stage. Wearing blue swirl-pattern camouflage, the white coupe marks the high end of BMW's ambitious project i portfolio, and will likely be badged i8 when it comes to market in 2013. Together with a megacity vehicle, the i8 will kick off carbon-fiber revolution at BMW. Rear engined and initially available only as a hybrid, the i8 is the most efficient BMW sports car ever conceived. Getting in to this futuristic BMW is not easy. At just a hair over four-feet high, it's limbo dancer low, and the door opening is shaped like a mail slot. The man at the wheel helps out by reciting the correct entry sequence. Start with sliding the left leg in, then lift the bum over the sill, align and lower the torso, assume a ducked posture and then reel in the right foot. Once inside, we find legroom is as tight as in an olympic bobsled, the scalp duly leaves a grease mark on the tinted glass roof, and the right shoulder is wedged against the composite door, which has been pushed shut from the outside. The 2+2 configuration is largely fanciful. With the front seats in the rearmost position, the space for additional occupants shrinks to zero.

The same engine is also used in the DBR9 and DBRS9 racing cars albeit with extensive modifications. The engine of the DBS produces 510 horsepower (380 kW) at 6500 rpm and 570 N•m (420 lb•ft) of torque @ 5750 rpm. The engine also includes an active bypass valve which above 5500 rpm opens and lets more air into the engine resulting in increased performance. Compression ratio is 10.9:1 which combined with the above propels the car from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds all the way up to 191 mph (307 km/h). In 2007, the British motoring show Top Gear sent the DBS around their famous test track and recorded a lap time of 1:23.9, a second faster than the comparable Bentley Continental Supersports. As with the DB9, Aston Martin uses the same VH(vertical horizontal) structure which provides strength and rigidity to the whole car. Thanks to the structure, 85% of the weight of the car is kept between the wheelbase which results in increased handling, responsiveness and feel during tight cornering. Aston Martin has also developed an Adaptive Damping System or ADS which alters the suspension in order for the car to cope with the driver's desires and road/weather conditions. When turned on, the ADS automatically alters the suspension settings to ensure the driver has high levels of control at all times. Apart from the suspension getting stiffer, throttle and braking response is increased and also steering is sharpened. The DBS is fitted with Pirelli P-Zero tyres which have been developed especially for the car, along with lightweight, aluminum 20" wheels. To keep the weight as low as possible, Aston Martin has made extensive use of carbon fiber throughout the whole car. The bonnet, the boot, the front wings and the door opening surrounds are all made by carbon fiber. The carpets are also made by special thin layers from carbon fiber. The roof and the doors are made by aluminum. The result of all that is a 30 kg (66 lb) weight reduction from a regular DB9. The car is also fitted with a carbon fiber splitter at the front wings to increase handling and a carbon fiber rear diffuser to increase high speed stability. The brake discs are carbon ceramic, which shaves a significant 12.5 kg (28 lb) from the unsprung weight. In the front, there are 398 mm (15.7 in) ventilated and drilled brakes with 6-piston alloy monobloc calipers. In the back, there are 360 mm (14.2 in) ventilated and drilled brakes with 4-piston alloy monobloc calipers.

What is it? The Wind is a little two-seat convertible coupe with a chassis that derives from the old (Mk2) Clio platform, which also underpins the latest Twingo (and in part the Dacia Duster). Given that summer met an abrupt end last week, forgive me if I write not about how the Renault Wind feels with the roof down, but instead how its Renaultsport-derived chassis copes with British roads. See the test pics of the Renault Wind 1.6 Dynamique Pretty well, is the short answer. It’s a versatile old thing, and is testament to how comprehensively developed most recent chassis are; they crash so safely and are so stiff that they can stay in use for longer. This platform is also smaller and lighter than the one that underpins the latest Clio, so even with the weight of the electric hood mechanism (which wild rain prevents me from flipping back, even though it only takes 12 seconds), you’re looking at a pretty healthy 1173kg kerb weight. Roof up, there’s no hint that the chassis isn’t as rigid as a regular Twingo, and its suspension set-up is based on that of the old Renaultsport Clio, so it’s agile and crisp, too. It doesn’t ride supremely, but I wouldn’t expect it to; this is the kind of car that revels in feeling small and keen, so you allow it the odd skip over bumps. This test variant has the 131bhp 1.6-litre engine from the sporty Twingo. While it produces more torque overall than the alternative 1.2-litre turbo engine, its advantage isn’t great (118lb ft versus 112) and it arrives higher up at 4400rpm (versus 3500rpm). So it’s no wonder you have to wind up the 1.6 for brisk progress. I’ve got no problem with doing that; the five-speed ’box shifts pretty sweetly, the engine sounds good and the pedal weights are all spot on for quick upshifts and revvy heel-and-toe downshifts. But I wonder if that’s what buyers of cabrios are really after. Perhaps that’s why Renault says the Wind offers something unique: a sporty little two-seat coupĂ© (with surprisingly capacious boot) and a roof that just happens to come off. The Honda CR-X Del Sol or Fiat X1/9 of the modern day, perhaps. That’s fine by us. There are enough boulevardier small convertibles around and they’re mostly dreadful. I’d pick a Wind over them any day. That the hood folds back is just an added bonus. We dropped it off at the Smiths Renault garage in Peterborough and they spent two days fixing the leak and retesting it under high water pressure. What was the problem? It seems the seal where the roof meets the passenger side window had started to go. I was surprised on such a new car, but apparently jet washing the Wind had put a lot of pressure on the seals. So there you go – be careful where you wash your car. I have to admit I've only washed the car once in the past eight months myself; most of the time I visit a hand wash in Peterborough. Our Renault Wind has been resigned to the driveway for much of the long bank holiday weekend. I've owned a black car before, but had forgotten just how much dust they can attract. So today I nipped to the local hand wash to clean it up - and a good job they did too. Only when they jet washed the dust off did I notice a small leak on the passenger side where the roof meets the glass. It's quite surprising. I've heard of soft-tops leaking under high-pressure hoses, but should a hard top let water in too? I was rather hoping it would stay bone dry. A few weeks back someone asked me ‘Does the Renault Wind roof really retract in 12 seconds?’ I’d never timed it before – all I knew was that it was pretty quick and that's all I really needed to know. Does it matter if it’s 12 seconds, 10sec or 15sec? I’m not too fussed, so long as I’m not waiting all day. So I dusted down my stopwatch and put the Wind’s folding hard-top to the test. It seemed appropriate; dare I say it for fear of jinxing our early summer days, we’ve been blessed with sunshine here in the east Midlands. And yes, it does fold back and close away in 12 seconds. No complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority here. However, there are a few niggles. Every time you lower the roof, the windows open all the way too. So once the roof is tucked away neatly, if you want the windows back up to avoid 'Wind' blast you have to manually hold the buttons down to put them up again. I counted and this takes a further eight seconds before you are ready to go. As the sun has blessed us with its presence today, a lunchtime drive seemed in order. Now the UK clocks have sprung forwards, it's a great chance to test the Wind's USP. Glasses on, roof down - in a dozen seconds, no time at all - is the best way to enjoy the Wind. And wind you will enjoy, as the side windows curve down towards the back, letting the breeze blast in. This isn't necessarily a complaint; why would you have the roof down if you didn't want the wind in your hair? However, on a sunny day like this the deep-set dials are a problem. It's just impossible to read the instruments when the sun is head on. You end up either guessing your speed by the engine sound, or ducking forward to take a quick check that you are abiding by the law. Drove the Wind last night and noticed a couple of slightly odd things about it: firstly, xenon lights from cars behind me seemed incredibly bright. I thought the first car had badly adjusted headlights, but then it happened twice more – a really bright, off-putting glare. Is it because the Wind is quite low (and, no, the following cars weren’t SUVS), or is it something to do with the rear screen? Whatever, it’s weird. Secondly, despite it being a tiny car, it’s actually quite hard to see out of. The A-pillars are a pair of blinkers and you can’t see one bit of the front bodywork. Worse, the wipers don’t sit flush under the bonnet, so they narrow the low, sloped windscreen further; if you’re six feet tall or so (and, fair enough, most Wind buyers won’t be), flipping down the tiny sun visor shuts out most of the road ahead.

British manufacturer Aston Martin and a team of Italian designers, Zagato, marking 50 years of their collaboration when making DB4GT Zagato with a new vehicle that will soon be introduced. Work together it will be shown at the Villa D'Este Concours in Italy on May 21, followed the match in Germany's Nurburgring track. 50 years ago, DB4GT Zagato was first competed at Goodwood's 1961 Easter and finish in 3rd position with the driver Striling Moss. The first cooperation was continued in 1986 with the V8 Vantage and V8 Zagato Volante Zagato. With the new Carrera GTS model already on sale, it was only a matter of time before Porsche released an all-wheel drive version of its new flagship non-turbo sports car. Matching the GTS in output, the Carrera 4 GTS delivers an increase of 23-hp over the Carrera 4S, with a 0-60 mph time that’s a hair faster (0.1 seconds to be exact), at just 4.0 seconds with the optional 7-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox and Sport Chrono Package Plus. As an AWD Porsche, the Carrera 4 GTS gets a 44-mm wider body with larger rear wheel arches. Other exterior upgrades include a SportDesign front lip, black side skirts from the GT2 and a black panel between the tailpipes. Plus, it comes with a stunning set of black-painted center-locking 19-inch RS Spyder wheels. Inside, there are black leather and Alcantara seats, plus an Alcantara steering wheel, gearshift lever and handbrake. On sale this Fall, Porsche will offer both a hard top and soft top version, with the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Coupe priced from $110,200 while the 911 Carrera 4 GTS Cabriolet will retail for $120,100. As mentioned, the latest 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS is essentially the ‘Carrera 4’ all-wheel drive version of last year’s 911 Carrera GTS. It gets the same 408 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque 3.8-liter flat-six engine, as well as a throaty sounding sports exhaust system and Porsche Traction Management stability control. The end result is a 0-62 mph time of just 4.6 seconds in the Coupe when fitted with the manual transmission, and 4.8 seconds for the Cabriolet. Of course, adding the PDK will shave an additional 0.2 seconds respectively off the acceleration times. In terms of handling, the standard all-wheel drive should manage to keep you on the road, even when nearing the car’s--and your own--limits. Here, the PTM system can send the optimal torque levels to the front wheels via a multiple-plate clutch in order to help prevent the wheels from slipping. Also helping things is a standard limited-slip differential. Visually, the new Carrera 4 GTS models with all-wheel drive differ in points of detail from earlier variants with rear-wheel drive. In addition to the type name on the doors and rear lid, the distinguishing characteristic of all models with all-wheel drive is the additional reflective stripe between the taillights. What the Carrera GTS models, both the regular version and the 4, have in common is the 911’s wide body, otherwise reserved for the all-wheel version of the 911s, and the rear axle track width that goes with it. This is the new 911 Carrera 4 GTS. Offered in both coupe and cabriolet form, the Carrera 4 GTS takes Porsche's Carrera GTS, and adds four-wheel drive. Not exactly. The 911 Carrera GTS was a parts-bin special, taking the 911 Carrera S drivetrain, adding the optional Powerkit and tweaked bodykit to the wider Carrera 4S body shell. Now Porsche hasadded four-wheel drive. So the latest addition to the burgeoning 911 catalogue is effectively a Carrera 4S with additional performance parts. An extra 23bhp for starters, taking power up to 405bhp. 0-62mph nudges down to 4.6sec manual, 4.4sec for the optional PDK in the Carrera 4 GTS coupe. Similar 0.1 second trimming has taken place to the Cabriolet's 0-62 times. You get to keep the standard C4S's CO2 and MPG figures, as befits a Porsche special edition these days. Outside, Porsche spotters will note the rear reflector strip which links the tail-lights, but are stymied in showing off their knowledge by the 'Carrera 4 GTS' logos on the bootlid and doors which give the game away for casual viewers. GTS-specific RS Syder wheels in black along with the two-wheel drive GTS's tweaked front bumper and aero parts finish the exterior differentiation. Inside it's Carrera 4 GTS sill plates, alcantara trim and the PCM touchscreen infotainment screen in the centre console. Before starting a Model T with the hand crank, the spark had to be manually retarded or the engine might "kick back". The crank handle was cupped in the palm, rather than grabbed with the thumb under the top of the handle, so that if the engine did kick back, the rapid reverse motion of the crank would throw the hand away from the handle, rather than violently twisting the wrist or breaking the thumb. Most Model T Fords had the choke operated by a wire emerging from the bottom of the radiator where it could be operated with the left hand. A flywheel magneto was an electrical generator that produced the high voltage necessary to produce a spark to initiate combustion. Although the MINI Cooper is now offered with two different diesel engine options, neither model really stirs the soul, focusing on overall economy rather than all-out performance. The F-150 SVT Raptor launched in 2010 as a dedicated off-roader. It was powered by a 5.4L (330 CID) engine, with a 6.2L option. The 6.2L (379 CID) engine has 411 horsepower (306 kW) and 434 ft•lbf (588 N•m) of torque. The suggested retail price was $3000 over the 5.4L model. A six-speed automatic is standard. The 1956 F-100 is a one-year only body style. On the whole, reviewers say the new engines give the F-150 an edge, providing ample power and good fuel economy. Looking at the pictures I do reckon the new one will look much better because the rear end seems to be more upright while the current one looks like the front end. So the new Boxster will actually have a front and rear instead of two fronts. Get it? It will be great to drive to, as Porsche will only use the evolution theory on it's cars and no radical 180 degree turn. Never ever considered buying one, but looking at it objectively from a driving experience and 'day to day' ownership prospect it's hard to beat. Maybe comprehensive reading is not your strong point. I clearly said "I actually agree that Porsche have no imagination"...so how can you (angrily I might add) accuse me of getting "all bent out of shape because there are people that think Porsche design is boring"?! Even so, I don't think defecating in a hole in the ground was perfect - it obviously could be improved. So your remark is still invalid. I also think that Porsche cars can be improved, but Porsche will have undertaken millions of pounds worth of market research of their current and prospective owners who obviously like the design. It's with respect to this - where Porsche are one of the most profitable car companies in the world and have plenty of interested customers who like their design (not me) - that I refer to "if it's (the design and the company profits are) not broken don't fix it. If they changed their design they risk loosing their loyal customers - this is all I'm saying. Chill out and actually debate (politely and maturely) with others and I may take any point you try to make more seriously. That 2.5 liter could have an output of up to 360 bhp (268 kW / 365 PS) in a turbocharged configuration. These are the best spy pictures yet of the new Porsche Boxster, as the disguise is stripped away from the snout of 2012’s new roadster. It's the car that saved the company back in the mid-1990s, and this third-generation Boxster (internally dubbed 981) will push more upmarket to make way for a 'baby Boxster' being developed with VW and Audi. As we get closer to the new Porsche Boxster’s debut (we hear it’ll appear at the 2012 Detroit motor show, with sales starting in time for the summer next year) the disguise is steadily being removed. The big news is that development of a turbocharged 2.5-litre flat four is underway, and it'll power both this new Boxster and the Cayman. You can see the fantastic synergies gained by "merging" VAG with Porsche. Now they only need one photocopier to "design" every car in their ranges.

Slated for a 2011 launch, the pricing details are not known as of now. With the arrival of the new Boxster Spyder in showrooms late last year, Porsche’s entry-level convertible range is now complete and due to be replaced by a brand new model over the coming year.
