This is the Mini Cooper SD, and it is the most powerful diesel ever slotted into the not-actually-that-small supermini. The hatch, drop-top, Countryman and Clubman are now being offered with BMW's 2.0-litre four-pot oil burner producing 143bhp and 225lb ft of torque - more torques, incidentally, than any other Mini including the JCW editions. Together with a lightweight (22.8kg) six-speed ‘box, the Cooper SD hatch accelerates from 0-62mph in 8.1 seconds and tops out at 134mph, while emitting 114g/km of CO2 and returning 65.7mpg. There's also a Mini Clubman ‘Hampton' edition (blue metallic paint, standard ‘Chili' pack, 17 twin-spoke alloys and Mini 50 Hampton badges) and a ‘Pimlico' edition (laser blue paint, 16s and Pimlico badges).
