The Mini Cooper SD is the first Mini diesel to carry the famous Cooper S badge – so how does it live up to this reputation? Well, for starters the 2.0-litre turbocharged unit produces 141bhp. That’s nearly 28% more than the Cooper D and almost 60% beyond what the regular One D can manage with their current 1.6-litre BMW turbodiesel engines. It’s also packing 225lb ft of torque (pulling power) – which is more than any other Mini, including the 181bhp petrol-powered Cooper S. As a result the regular Mini Hatch version sprints to 62mph in just 8.1 seconds and achieves a top speed of 134mph, while returning a claimed 65.7mpg and emitting 114g/km CO2. The Cooper SD is also available as Mini Clubman, Convertible and Countryman. Even the ALL4 all-wheel drive version of the latter, by far the heaviest and least efficient vehicle in the Mini range, manages 57.6mpg, 130g/km CO2, 0-62mph in 9.4 seconds and 121mph. These results are helped by a full compliment of ‘MINIMALISM’ fuel saving technologies, including start-stop, brake energy regeneration, gearshift indicator, electric power steering and demand-based use of components like the alternator. Mini has also fitted a ‘super light’ six-speed manual gearbox, helping to compensate for the added weight of the 2.0-litre lump under the bonnet. A six-speed automatic is optional. Then there’s the new Mini Pimilico – a special edition of the Hatch. This includes Lazer Blue metallic paint, 16-inch alloys, Piano Black interior trim, white indicators and Pimlico badging, and is priced from £14,465. Finally, the new Mini Sport Pack is available on all versions of the Hatch and Convertible. This comprises a more aggressive exterior appearance, John Cooper Works interior detailing, Piano Black trim, white indicators, bonnet stripes and a Sport button. This controls the actions of the Dynamic Traction Control and Electronic Differential Lock Control, both of which aim to boost the Mini’s handling and responses. 17-inch John Cooper Works alloy wheels are the finishing touch. Prices range between £2,150 and £3,245 – depending on model. Mini Cooper SD (Gear 2). News and automotive information about Mini Cooper SD car gear 2. Mini Cooper SD car pictures and images gear 2.
